Native Speakers of English

Applicants for matriculation in a degree or certificate program are required to have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent (G.E.D.).

PBC enrolls a limited number of students who are not high school graduates, but who qualify for admission under "ability to benefit" (atb) guidelines. These students must be at least 18 years old; however, students who are under 18 years old may enroll with a letter of approval for attendance at the college from the chief academic officer of his or her high school. Ability-to-benefit students are required to achieve a satisfactory score on the Career Programs Assessment test (CPAt). Minimum scores required for acceptance into any program are:

1. Language Usage Skills 42
2. Reading Skills 43
3. Numerical Skills 41

Students accepted into a program may need remedial courses in writing, reading, or math, depending on their entrance score(s).

Non-Native Speakers of English

All students who are not native speakers of English are required to receive a passing score on four examinations in order to determine that they have the necessary English proficiency to succeed at PBC. The entrance examinations are the CELSA test and the NYS (New York State) Place Test. Satisfactory scores on the CAT Mathematics test and written assessment test are also required. The minimum scores required for the four entrance tests are:

1. CELSA 37
2. NYS Place Test 34
3. CAT Mathematics Test
  - Accounting A.O.S. Degree Program 27
  - Business Management A.O.S. Degree Program 15
  - Office Technology A.O.S. Degree Program 11
4. Writing Assessment Test 2

Applicants interested in enrolling in the English as a Second Language Certificate Program would also be required to take the above tests, excluding the math test. The minimum required scores are as follows:

1. CELSA 23
2. NYS Place Test 20
3. Writing Assessment Test 1

In addition, applicants would be required to document high school graduation and work experience.

All foreign language documents must be submitted with notarized English translations.

Applicants are also interviewed to determine if they have the appropriate attitudes and motivation to succeed at PBC.

Within the limitations of its ability and resources, it is the policy of Professional Business College to accept all applicants for admission whose credentials indicate an ability to successfully complete the requirements for a career program of choice. The College does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national or ethnic origin, or handicap in the administration of educational or admissions policies.
