Central to the Department of Arts and Sciences’ mission is the belief that a generalist and liberal arts education is a fundamental basis for a well rounded and learned person. Through exposure to historical and contemporary cultures and contexts, study of the depths of human experience and aesthetic expression, and consideration of the nature of the universe and our place within it, students learn about themselves, others, and the potential of human beings to contemplate and create.
