HEOA section 112 HEA section 133 / Effective date: July 1, 2010
‘‘(d) PROVISION OF ISBN COLLEGE TEXTBOOK INFORMATION IN COURSE SCHEDULES.
—To the maximum extent practicable, each institution of higher education receiving Federal financial assistance shall—
‘‘(1) disclose, on the institution’s Internet course schedule and in a manner of the institution’s choosing, the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and retail price information of required and recommended college textbooks and supplemental materials for each course listed in the institution’s course schedule used for preregistration and registration purposes, except that—
‘‘(A) if the International Standard Book Number is not available for such college textbook or supplemental material, then the institution shall include in the Internet course schedule the author, title, publisher, and copyright date for such college textbook or supplemental material;
and
‘‘(B) if the institution determines that the disclosure of the information described in this subsection is not practicable for a college textbook or supplemental material, then the institution shall so indicate by placing the designation ‘To Be Determined’ in lieu of the information required under this subsection;
and
‘‘(2) if applicable, include on the institution’s written course schedule a notice that textbook information is available on the institution’s Internet course schedule, and the Internet address for such schedule.
In summary, the HEOA requires that students be made aware of the ISBN numbers and retail costs to be charged by the college for their textbooks and related course materials at the time the students pre-register or register for courses for the upcoming semester. If the ISBN is not available from the publisher then “To Be Determined” can be used. Because PBC does not utilize an online (Internet) course registration system, all information mandated by the HEOA section 112 HEA section 133, will be available to the student at the time of registration for the following semester. Students can also obtain this information by contacting the bookstore directly at the e-mail address provided below, or by visiting the bookstore.
All PBC students will be able to obtain information about textbooks, prices, editions, ISBN numbers, and costs by contacting the bookstore at the college’s main campus.
* All campus students should contact: chuang@pbcny.edu
And include the following information in your e-mail:
1. Full Name
2. Student ID number
3. Program of Study
4. Course Names and Codes of the Classes you are pre-registered for, and found on your schedule
You may obtain your textbooks from PBC’s bookstore or any other vendor you select to use. If you will be using an outside vendor please be sure that the ISBNs provided to you by the PBC bookstore match the vendor’s. You are expected to have the required text(s) at the beginning of each course so please plan shipping time accordingly if you plan to use an outside vendor.
