Transfer Guide
Many students at Professional Business College are interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after they have completed their Associate Degree. PBC has articulation agreements with many colleges in the local New York area. These schools recognize that PBC provides a quality education, and are actively interested in enrolling our graduates. Below you will find some important information to help you understand and begin the transfer process. Associate’s Degree vs. Bachelor’s Degree Professional Business College offers an Associate Degree (often called a ‘two-year’ degree, although at PBC you might complete it in more or less time). The Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degree at PBC requires that you complete 60 credits with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. The next highest degree is a Bachelors Degree (often called a ‘four-year’ degree, although it may take you more or less time). Most Bachelors Degrees require that students complete at least 120 or more credits. Depending on where you transfer, all or some of your 60 PBC credits will count towards the Bachelors Degree. Once you finish the Bachelors Degree, the sky is the limit. You can continue on for a Masters Degree, or head out into the work-force. Articulation/Transfer Agreements An articulation agreement is a contract between two schools whereby certain courses are guaranteed to transfer, provided the student earns satisfactory grades. PBC has articulation agreements with the following schools:

• Berkeley College
• Briarcliffe College
• Globe Institute of Technology
• Metropolitan College
• Mercy College
• Monroe College
• St. Joseph’s College

Students may also transfer to schools with whom we do not have an articulation agreement. These schools will determine how many credits will transfer and in what subjects. CUNY and SUNY schools, for example, may vary on how many PBC credits they will accept. Transferring Credits Colleges that have an articulation agreement with PBC will accept up to 60 PBC credits and will only transfer in courses with grades of C or better. The number of credits you receive may depend on what your major is at your new school. Students should meet with a transfer advisor at the transfer institution to review their PBC transcript. Your Grade Point Average Transfer schools will require that you minimally have a 2.0 cumulative gpa at PBC in order to be considered for transfer. Ideally PBC students should aim for a 3.0 cumulative gpa or higher in order to widen their options. Remember that the higher your grade point average is, the more likely that you may qualify for additional funding or a scholarship at the transfer institution. Requesting official PBC transcripts Students can request copies of their PBC transcripts from the Registrar’s Office, Room 504. Students can start looking at transfer schools prior to completing their PBC degrees, but transfer schools will want to see a final transcript before making a final admissions decision. Steps For Exploring Transfer Schools and Narrowing Down Your Options

Choose at least 3 transfer schools that you are interested in. You can start by narrowing down your choices in the following ways:

Major: Does the transfer school offer the major you want?
Location: Can you get to the transfer school fairly easily?

After you have identified at least 3 schools that have the major and the location that you want, take a look at the website for that school (or request that printed material be sent to your home). Learn more about the school by looking for:

• Admissions Information
Find the Admissions page and look under “Transfer Students.” Read about the process and what materials you will have to provide with your application.

• Semester Starts
When does the next semester start? Fall? Spring? Summer? What are the application deadlines, if any? Are the application deadlines different for Transfer students?

• Class Times/Sessions
